Dr. Jennifer R. Root’s career balances education; practice of medicine; and ensuring clinical quality control.  Dr. Root is a board certified anesthesiologist who has been practicing in Columbia, South Carolina for more than ten years.  She attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed her anesthesia residency at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Root’s passion for her field has led her to become very involved in education, teaching medical students and providing presentations to nurses and physicians.   Dr. Root has served on the continuing medical education committee of the South Carolina Medical Association  for almost 7 years, and she routinely travels around the state on accreditation site visits for the 17 hospitals and clinics that the Association accredits.

Dr. Root currently serves as the president of the South Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, and is establishing the first free standing state anesthesia forum.  She has held several other prestigious roles in her field.  Elected to the board of trustees of the South Carolina Medical Association six years ago, Dr. Root is currently serving as Vice Speaker. She has also been named a delegate for South Carolina’s American Society of Anesthesiologists’ annual meeting. 

Dr. Root is married (to fellow anesthesiologist Dr. Forest Evans) and has three children.
